Visit by an old girl Kalpana Issac Morris

It was a great joy to have old girl Kalpana Issac Morris visiting the school on Monday 20th and addressing our girls at General Assembly. Kalpana Issac now Morris was a Prefect, involved in athletics, debating etc and was in Scott House. After her A’levels, she went one year to the University of Peradeniya for her first year in Arts, and after ’83, she continued her undergraduate studies in Stella Maris College, Chennai, India. From there she went to Oxford University where she became a fellow (of Green Templeton College, formed in 2008) and also wrote talks for the BBC. After marriage she went to  Washington DC as a correspondent for the BBC's world service as her husband Chris was the State Dept correspondent. Always did charity work which got her invited to the White House by Hilary Clinton.

In Turkey  she did a huge amount of fundraising during the earthquake as well as for the earthquake in Gujarat, sending a plane load with field hospitals and medicines. Her services were so appreciated, the head of Action Aid flew over personally to thank her.She has also lived in Brussels, Oxford and later in India. She worked for  Coca-Cola there as the  Head of corporate communications. She now resides in Brussels with her husband becoming the European  Correspondent, and her two sons aged 19 & 12.

In her speech Kalpana paid a great tribute to Mrs. Shanthi Peiris, the Principal during her time, acknowledging that she was her bedrock and from whom her values were formed.
