IMPORTANT School Notice - July

Methodist College, Colombo 03

Notice to Parents

The school changed status from a Government Assisted Private school, to a fully private school under the management of the Methodist Church of Sri Lanka, from 1st July 2014. This was a decision taken by the Methodist conference in 2009 and has finally come to pass.

The Parent Teacher Association of the school has organized its annual Karaoke evening ’Ignite’ on the last day of term, Friday August 1st from 5 to 11 p.m. in the school premises. Entrance by ticket (Rs. 250/=) for school family only. It is a truly enjoyable and relaxed evening for students and parents alike, so that you can get to know your daughter’s friends and their parents. The students can also enjoy themselves in a safe environment. Tickets will be available for sale in the school office and Primary by the 15th of July. Please patronize this event.

There will be a special talk by Psychiatrist, Dr. Asiri Rodrigo on Thursday 31st July at 10.30 a.m. in the school auditorium on coping with examination pressure.  This will be an hour before the Parents’ Days of Grades 11, 12 & 13 which is from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and we presume those parents will come as they are all examination classes. Your daughters will be outside the auditorium so that you can bring them inside to sit with you. I know it is a weekday but we fixed it because of the parents’ day and this talk is essential for both parents and students. We urge both parents to make every effort to attend this talk which the school has taken the trouble to organize. If there are parents in other grades who are interested in listening to his talk, please feel free to do so.

The school is organizing an oriental dance program ‘Ranga Prabha’ on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th September at 5.30 p.m. in the school auditorium. Tickets priced at Rs. 600/= 400/= (downstairs reserved) and 200/= upstairs will be on sale by mid July. While I thank all parents who obtained banners and advertisements for the souvenir of the Choir concert in June, I urge parents to assist us for the souvenir of ‘Ranga Prabha’ too. Printed letters for advertisements can be obtained from the office or we can send you scanned e-copies  if you e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Please buy your tickets early to avoid disappointment, especially as the school office will be closed during the holidays.

The school has started a class discussion time once a week, on different days of the week and the topic is given by a small committee of teachers.  We received feedback on the last one from the classes about things they appreciate in the school and things they would like to see changed. There was an overwhelming request for annual class trips and we wish to send them in the 2nd week of Term III  on any day between 10th to 12th of September. I urge parents to help their daughters and class teachers by finding suitable and affordable places, within 2 hours travel time only, excluding travel on the expressways.

School will close on Friday 1st August and re-open on Monday 1st September. The school office will be open on the 4th and 5th & 29th of August from 8.30 to 12 noon. Please check on the school website methodistcollege.org for updates and news of school events.

The 1st round of the Inter-House Netball matches will be held on Saturday 19th July from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The semi Finals will be held on Monday 21st during school hours for Under 15,17 & 19 and after school for Under 13.

The finals will be held on the last day of term, Friday August 1st, during school hours.
